Alex Belt claimed his second EuroPro Tour win at the Jessie May World Snooker Championship at Collingtree Park Golf Club in Northampton with a stunning final found of seven under-par.
The Snainton Golf Centre-based pro shot rounds of 69, 67 and 65 to lead the field by three shots and claim the £10,000 winner’s cheque and the trophy.
“I’m thankful I managed to get over the line,” said Belt following the final round. “There was some great competition out there and even though I won by three shots, I could feel the other guys breathing down my neck.”
The event went down to the wire after James Frazer (Pennard Golf Club), who started the day as tournament leader, was a shot and hole behind on 14 under-par as Belt tackled the 18th at Collingtree.
“I knew James was on 14 under-par so I needed a birdie on my last hole if I was to stand a chance of winning,” added Belt, who managed to hold his nerve and hit an excellent approach shot to within 4ft of the pin to make his sixth birdie of the day.
“It was extremely satisfying when I got that last birdie, I really needed it to give James all the work to do on his last hole.”
Belt secured his second win at Collingtree Park – following his victory there in 2013 – and moved to 15th in the Race To Amendoeira ahead of the Tour Championship October 24-26.
