Durham’s Amy Burton had a week to remember with three wins in seven days, including two county events and victory in the new Graeme Storm Mini-Open Series.
The 10-year-old from Wynyard Golf Club started with victory in the Durham County Girls Appleby Bowl stableford event at Hartlepool Golf Club, mastering brutal conditions to record 43 points. In the main event, Ella Jackson successfully defended her title.
The following day, Amy returned to Hartlepool – playing off her new handicap of 24 – and shot a nett score of 71 in the George Crawford Spring Medal to win the event.
The following weekend, Amy headed to Rudding Park to play in the Graeme Storm Mini-Open and won by nine shots with a gross score of 46 for the nine holes played.
A member of the County Junior Elite Girls Squad, Amy is following in the footsteps of several successful Durham girls in recent years – there are currently seven Durham girls studying in the US on golf scholarships.
The win at Rudding Park gave Amy 200 points in the first event of the Graeme Storm Mini-Open Series. Meanwhile, Millie Hixon finished second with a score of 55 to earn 175 points, and Caylin Million finished third with a score of 59 to take home 150 points. The boys event was won Henry Price with a score of 34. Alexander Boys finished second while Elliot Moon was third.
The series will be played throughout summer and we’ll have reports on each of the events.
