Amelia Temperley, 11, wins Morpeth’s ladies club championship

Amelia Temperley set a new record at Morpeth Golf Club when she lifted the ladies club championship trophy at the age of just 11.

In only her second season of playing golf – and having reduced her handicap from 18.8 to 7.9 during 2023 – Amelia capped a remarkable year by becoming the youngest-ever club champion at Morpeth.

Her journey to the title was not easy, having to overcome lady captain Colleen Brown in a Sunday morning semi-final match – which saw her reach the 18th tee 1dn and ultimately win on the 20th hole.

In the afternoon final, Amelia met past champion Julie Ribeiro – who had beaten Shirley Young in their morning match. With Colleen and Shirley caddying, in keeping with tradition at Morpeth, Amelia came through a closely contested front nine before building a lead and ultimately triumphing 3&2.

With the win – which added to her four Northern Junior Golf Tour wins this season – Amelia became the youngest-ever ladies club champion at Morpeth – beating the previous record by five years.
