Alex goes close again

Alex Wrigley had to settle for the runner-up spot for a second year in a row at the Ain International Pro-Am in Abu Dhabi as Chris Gane retained the title.

Chris closed with a three under-par round of 67 to post a 273 total – holding off Alex by a single shot as the Hartlepool player shot 66 to finish the week.

Chris and Alex, both GB&I PGA caps, slugged it out last year with Chris winning the playoff for the 2018 title. Alex has now finished second on four occasions while capturing the title once.

Alex led the 2019 tournament after a first round 69 in tough conditions as Chris was one shot back and tied with South Moor’s Mark Ridley. Alex went on to post a 73 in the second round before two rounds of 66 saw him finish within a shot of the lead. Chris faired better in round two with a round of 70 before shooting rounds of 66 and 67 to claim the title.

Meanwhile, Mark went on to finish in a tie for seventh place after a second round 78 knocked him back before he closed with rounds of 68 and 73 at the international pro am event.
