Alex Belt with The Leeds Cup

Alex Belt wins The Leeds Cup

Alex Belt topped the leaderboard in The Leeds Cup, the oldest professional golf trophy in the world, and part of the national Callaway Chrome Tour PGA Open Series.

Bridlington-based Alex (66-65) added his name to the long list of greats who have lifted the trophy at Leeds Golf Club with a playoff victory over Gavin Hay (67-64) and Sion Sebb (64-67) after the three players shot seven under-par totals in regulation.

“This is a trophy that I’ve always wanted to win – with the likes of [Harry] Vardon and a few of my good friends on there,” Alex told The PGA after the playoff. “It’s nice to finally get my name on this trophy.

“I couldn’t happier, particularly with the way I’ve been playing coming into this event – it’s not been pretty. I’ve just tried to remain patient, tried to enjoy it, and hoped for a few decent bounces and a few decent putts – and that happened today.”
