England Golf has named the players that will be going all out for victory at next month’s European Ladies’ Team Championships.
Six players and three reserves have been called up for the championship at Royal County Down Golf Club in Northern Ireland from July 6-10 including Whitley Bay’s Rosie Belsham.
The full team is Lianna Bailey (Kirby Muxloe), Rosie Belsham (Whitley Bay), Annabell Fuller (Roehampton), Charlotte Heath (Huddersfield), Caley McGinty (Knowle Golf Club), Emily Toy (Carlyon Bay), Hannah Screen (Reserve – Berkhamsted), Amelia Williamson (Reserve – Hunstanton) and Mimi Rhodes (Reserve – Burnham and Berrow).
Jenny Henderson, assistant performance manager, said: “After a very challenging time, it’s fantastic to be able to support players at a major team event once again. Royal County Down is a great venue that will test an exceptional field of competitors. Our thanks must go to Golf Ireland and the EGA for working with the local authorities to create a safe environment for the team to compete. This is a very talented group of players who I know will work hard, play smart and compete for each other as well as themselves.”
Women’s coach Steve Robinson added: “It’s great these players will get the opportunity to experience competing at this level. It’s a chance to benchmark performance against some of the best players in the world and, as always, we will be focused on giving 100%. Win the preparation, win the planning and the rest will follow.”
England’s women will compete with 18 other nations and are looking to win the title for the 11th time in the championship’s 62-year history. Sweden go into the event as defending champions having won last year on home soil at Upsala Golf Club. England did not take part in 2020 due to Covid-19 travel restrictions.
