Whitburn Golf Club is set to be enhanced further as the club looks to build on the success of recent work on 13 holes of the Lizard Lane course.
The next phase of work is set to include a new fairway bunker on the 15th hole and bunkering changes on the 18th – with the construction set to be carried out by J Greasley Ltd, who have been praised for their work on the course to-date. Work to improve drainage between the 16th and 17th holes will also be carried out, and it’s hoped the work will take place during the first half of November.
Previous work at Whitburn has included the revitalisation of the 12th hole, which saw a line of 136 sleepers added to a lake in front of the green.
The work has been overseen by golf architect Jonathan Gaunt. As well as major bunker improvements, new steps have been fitted on several holes and new competition tees have been created. More than 1,100 gorse bushes have also been planted thanks to a £14,000 grant from the Fairways Foundation.
In 2025, the club hosted the Durham and Northumberland Inter-County Foursomes final and the Dixon Cup.
