Ingleby Barwick’s Ross Jackson is doing his bit to boost junior golf with the launch of a tour specifically aimed at youngsters in the North East.
Jackson has won awards for his dedication to junior golf development and this year’s tour includes 10 tournaments.
“The rationale of the tour stems from the lack of junior tournaments or tours which cater for all juniors golfers irrespective of age or playing ability,” said Jackson.
The tour kicked off with a tournament at Catterick at the start of April and further dates are:
April 23 Hunley Hall Hotel and Golf Club; May 28 Middlesbrough Municipal Golf Centre; June 4 Wilton; July 9 Billingham; August 5 Richmond; August 13 Eaglescliffe; August 20 Saltburn; September 3 Ingleby Barwick Golf Academy; September 24 Romanby Golf and Country Club.
The tour utilises innovative teeing systems, appropriate course setups and shorter round durations.
This includes nine-hole (0-36 handicap) and six-hole events (37+) open to all golfers and all ages from 5-18 in five categories (0-12, 13-24, 25-36, 37-54 and non-handicaps).
There will be a prize presentation at each event and the entry deadline is six days prior to an event.
It costs £10 for tour membership and £5 entry per event.
