Cameron Wallace is aiming for the World Golf Students title after being crowned the English and Welsh Universities champion.

Cameron, a member of Seaton Carew Golf Club and a student at Northumbria University, secured victory at West Lancashire Golf Club with a closing round of 67. He chased down Durham teammate James Glenn, the first round leader following an opening 68, to add the title to the Association of Colleges Championship title he won at St Andrews last year.

Cameron, 19, will now head to Peru to represent the English Universities team in the World Championships. He said: “I am really excited about this, I can’t wait.

“I played with James over the last three rounds,” added Cameron, who saved his best golf for the final round – where he made six birdies over 16 holes to better James’ four birdies and a bogey.

“We were tied after 70 holes. I dropped a shot on 17, but James had a double bogey, the first he’d had. We both parred the last to leave me one ahead after shooting 67 for the day, which was the best round of the tournament.”
