Northern Golfer Tips pro John Harrison added the NENW PGA Championship to his list of titles in 2019 with victory over Mark Ridley in a playoff.
John, from Matfen Hall, beat South Moor-based Mark on the first playoff hole at Morpeth Golf Club with a birdie after the pair shared the 36-hole lead on 135 in one of the biggest events of the region’s PGA calendar.
Meanwhile, five pro ams at clubs across the region produced a string of strong performances.
At Matfen Hall, Ken Ferrie posted a seven under-par 65 to lead the field by three shots as George Cowan finished in second place. George went on to join Darren Pearce and Phil Waugh in shooting four under-par rounds of 67 in The Morpeth Practice Pro Am to share the winner’s cheque.
Richard Robson-Crosby posted a new course record 66 to win the Whitley Bay GC Pro Am, beating George Cowan, Martin Forster and John Harrison by one shot.
At Brancepeth Castle, Andrew Scrimshaw took home the title with a four under-par round of 66 as John Harrison finished in solo second in the event, which raised money for St Cuthbert’s Hospice.
Meanwhile, Mark Ridley was at the top of the leaderboard once again at the Barnard Castle Golf Club Pro Am alongside Vince Guest after the pair shot four under-par rounds of 69.
