Sun shines on COCO

Sports stars teamed up with the North East business community to raise thousands of pounds for international children’s charity COCO alongside Steve Cram at Slaley Hall.

Now in its 15th year, the annual Steve Cram Celebrity Golf Day raised more than £20,000 for COCO – a Newcastle-based international children’s charity that was co-founded by world champion athlete and BBC commentator Cram and former British Army Major Jim Panton in 2000.

Stars from the worlds of football, rugby, athletics, boxing, and TV and radio joined Cram for the event, including Glen McCrory, Kriss Akabusi, Steve Harper, John Carver, John Regis, Steve Watson, Don Goodman, Ally Hogg, referee Michael Oliver and broadcasters Ian Payne and Manish Bhasin.

Cram said: “It was a fantastic day and we really were blessed with great weather this year. Once again, Slaley Hall has proved to be a brilliant venue. Everyone seems to have enjoyed themselves, but most importantly, we’re raising funds for a great cause. COCO will be able to make a big difference with the money raised today, improving access to vital education for young people in East Africa. I’m really grateful to my good friends from the sporting world who always support this event so well, and to the many generous North East businesses who contribute so much.”
