Seaton Carew Golf Club is aiming to build on its success in 2024 – including hosting the English Amateur Championship in its 150th anniversary year and returning to the GB&I Top 100 – with significant improvements to the course.
The work – overseen by course manager Tom Coulson – has included tee box rebuilds on several holes, enhancements to the irrigation system as part of the programme’s second phase, the replacement of outdated astroturf paths with a combination of fully irrigated turf and hybrid turf/synthetic surfaces, and the restructuring of the 18th fairway.
The work on the closing par four, which doglegs from left to right and is played to a vast green in front of the clubhouse, has seen a larger landing area created for longer hitters and given shorter hitters a view of the green for their second shots.
As part of the club’s drive to be more sustainable, the new tees have been constructed using recycled materials from other works on-site.
“Our commitment to excellence drives every decision we make,” said club manager Alexander Shaw. “These improvements reflect our dedication to delivering world-class playing conditions and an unparalleled member and visitor experience, while also safeguarding the future of our course.
“With more than 40,000 rounds played annually, these upgrades are part of our ongoing mission to ensure our historic course meets the demands of modern play while preserving its unique character.”
