Blackwell Grange’s Aaron Cox finished the NENW PGA season with victory in the circuit’s annual Portugal Pro Am.

Aaron posted a four-round total of 153 points to finish five shots ahead of Sharpley’s Kevin Jackson. Meanwhile, South Moor’s Mark Ridley took third place with 146 points as Brampton’s Phil Waugh and Tynedale’s Martin Forster shared fourth place on 144 points.

Aaron – who posted scores of 36, 36, 40 and 41 at Villa Sol, Laranjal, Quinta South and Quinta North – said: “It’s a good feeling to get another win to finish the year. It was a great week out in Portugal, the golf courses are just spectacular. The courses out there suit my game as they’re a little closer to the courses back home in Australia – and that really helped me get the win.

“It’s been a good first year in the North East with a couple of wins. I’m looking forward to seeing my coaching grow at Blackwell Grange too – the junior academy has gone from eight to 62 youngsters so that’s going to be really exciting to work on in 2020.”

Meanwhile, Morpeth’s David Clark shot a round of 64 to lead the field at the Sharpley Better Ball Pro Am as Callum Tarren teamed up with Stewart Parnaby to win the team event with a score of 59.
