Blackwell Grange welcomed more than 150 people for the launch of the club’s new Junior Academy Course.
Cllr Nick Wallis, mayor of Darlington, officially opened the six hole course, which has holes ranging from 44 to 73 yards.
Following a putting competition, Nick opened the new course, which is sponsored by Liam McDermott from Darlington BM, and hit the first shot followed by the club’s vice-captain and ladies captain along with five of the club’s junior members. Youngsters then played the six holes with many of their parents and grandparents also taking part.
The course will be used for junior competitions, Golf Sixes events and junior classes. It is also open to the public for a small green fee.
The club launched its Junior Academy in January 2019 with eight youngsters. That number has now grown to more than 60 taking part in weekly lessons.
The academy has also been running golf lessons at primary schools around Darlington, headed up by assistant professional Aaron Cox.
Aaron’s vision is to make the Blackwell Grange Junior Golf Academy the biggest in the North East with more than 100 juniors receiving weekly lessons.
