While I get ready for Q School in December, I’m putting everything I learned this season into practice, writes Rosie Belsham
At times this year, I’ve struggled to see the positives. Having had a little bit of time off after the LET Access Series season ended and jumped out of the golf bubble, I can now see the journey I’ve been on much more clearly.
I’ve spent hours booking flights, accommodation, cars, ferries and trains; I’ve setup a business and managed my accounts… All while making more cuts than I’ve missed. I’ve also had a top 10 finish, bounced back from bad golf, and played reasonably well when I’ve been physically and mentally drained. I’ve been to amazing places and made so many new friends.
The main thing I’ve realised is that this year happened to me and I just went along with it. Yes, I enjoyed every bit of it, but I don’t think I had control over my results or gave myself the best chance to play my best golf.
That might sound strange, but throughout my amateur career I had the opportunity to focus on being the best golfer I could be.
Whether I was with the teams at Northumberland, England, GB&I or Baylor – someone organised the tournament, kit, travel, accommodation, food, training, practice rounds… Now I’ve spent a year doing that for myself, I appreciate the huge value of being part of a team.
I’ve also realised I played far too much this season. I was scared to miss events so I spent multiple weeks on the road. My weeks off were generally spent arranging to go back out the following week when I should have been working on my game and my fitness. Next season I will plan it differently, with downtime and training weeks built into my schedule.
I’ve split my off-season into three sections – technique, performance and playing. As I write, I’m working hard with my coaches on correcting the ragged edges of my technique after a year of over-playing. My performance work is focusing on getting good results, having an excellent short game, acceptance, and practising competing as I work on remembering how to get those good results. When I get to playing – the focus is Ladies European Tour Qualifying School in December, which will determine where I tee it up next season.
I’m approaching Q School differently this year, having been there last season. I know what to expect and what I need to do, and I’m really excited to get out to Morocco and get started.
This season has been an absolute whirlwind and I have loved it. I’m so lucky to have the chance to do this and can’t wait to see what next season has in store. Armed with the lessons I’ve learned in 2025, I want to enjoy every week and continue to be thankful for the people around me and the opportunities I have.
