Yorkshire retained the Northern Counties Match Week title at Huddersfield Golf Club despite a final-day 5-4 loss to Cheshire that ended their hopes of a perfect five-from-five record.
Yorkshire finished on eight match points alongside Cumbria – Yorkshire retaining the title having won more game points over the five days as Cheshire finished in third place.
Players with national honours, England North Region squad members and those who have been part of the Futures squad coached by JJ Vallely featured in the Durham, Northumberland and Cumbria squads through the week – particularly for Northumberland, which fielded one of its youngest ever teams in the event.
Northumberland finished in fourth place and were represented by Libby Bell (13), Rachel Gourley (13), Maggie Whitehead (13), Holly Hardy (15), Jessica Baker (15), Rosie Belsham (16), Niamh Lendrum (19), Kelly McNulty (23) and Rebecca Ferguson (25).
Northumberland captain Candy Brown said: “It’s great that the girls have done so well with successes at home and away in national events. Ladies golf in Northumberland is in a great position. We can’t wait to see how well the girls do in the coming months and beyond.”
