The North of England Under 14 Championship at South Moor was a real thriller.
The weather proved a villain with play suspended because of torrential rain on the second morning with strong winds hampering players throughout the event.
The weather didn’t affect Joshua Hill (Jumeirah Golf Estates) too much. Josh, who plays off a handicap of plus-two at the age of 13 and won the Under 12 title last year, relied on that experience to card rounds of 78, 76 and 75 to climb through the field and take the title on 229, one shot ahead of the chasing pack.
Hannah Golding (Brockton Hall posted a final round of 80 for a total of 238 to clinch the girls’ title by seven shots.
Doncaster’s Joshua Berry took the under 12 title with a final round of 77 for 238, pipping Dylan Shaw Radford by one shot.
The Team Trophy, which is decided by taking the two best scores from a team of three, was won by The Celtic Raiders – Cameron Adam, Cameron Johnston and Aiden O’Hagen with 307 while the handicap prize was won by the team of The Three Girls – Hannah Golding, Kirsten Porte and Constance Brooks – with a nett score of 281.
