Yorkshire’s Reece Samson and James Walker topped the leaderboard in the annual PGA Inter-County Championship at Hadley Wood Golf Club.
Hickleton-based Reece and James (The Oaks) led the field of 28 teams from around the country in the event – which combines fourball betterball and foursomes rounds – with back-to-back rounds of 65 giving them a 14 under-par total and a two-shot victory over Nottinghamshire’s Thomas Hanson and Andrew Willey.
“It feels pretty good,” Reece told The PGA after collecting the Dave Thomas Trophy. “Shooting seven under-par in foursomes is tough to beat, and we’re very happy to be standing here with the trophy.
“The secret to alternate shot is getting off to a hot start,” added James. “From there, you’ve got to cling on to it! We were solid in the fourball, just didn’t hole a lot. Reece holed a lot this morning and we were flying from there.”
