McCarthy looking good

Nick McCarthy leads the region’s charge on the HotelPlanner.com PGA EuroPro Tour order of merit after the first three events of the season.

Moortown-based McCarthy sits seventh in the Race To Amendoeira following a third place finish at the season-opening Lookers Championship at Close House, where he finished just two shots behind winner Gavin Moynihan after a close-run final round.

McCarthy then followed up with a second top 10 in the third event of the season, The IFX Championship at Frilford Heath Golf Club in Oxfordshire.

Elsewhere in the region, Daniel Gavins is also inside the top 20 of the order of merit following a tie for 16th place at Close House and a tie for fifth place at Frilford Heath. Meanwhile, the likes of Nick Marsh (Huddersfield Golf Club), James Maw (Rockliffe Hall) and Alex Wrigley (Hartlepool Golf Club) have all collected early-season payouts.

Gavins (Walton Range/Howley Hall GC) won promotion from the EuroPro Tour to the Challenge Tour in 2013 and finished seventh on the order of merit in 2015.

The Tour’s next stop in the region is at Longhirst Hall Golf Club in Northumberland on July 5-7 for The Dawson & Sanderson Classic.
