Martin McCririck secured the Durham men’s Order of Merit title following an incredibly successful season.
Martin, who won his third Durham Matchplay Championship this year, also won the Chester Bowl at Chester-le-Street – shooting a three under-par round of 68 – and the Tyneside Scratch Open – with a four under-par 66 – en route to the title.
Meanwhile, Cameron Wallace shot rounds of 69 and 74 in challenging conditions to win the final event in this year’s Durham Order of Merit – the Hartlepool Scratch Open.
Brancepeth Castle-based Richard Aisbitt topped the leaderboard in the Bishop Auckland Bowl for a record-breaking seventh time, 33 years after his first win. Richard led the field in the 40th playing of the 36-hole event with rounds of 71 and 70 as Bishop’s Jamie Birkbeck finished one shot back in second place.
Jamie meanwhile won the Leonard Crawley Medal at Brancepeth – topping the leaderboard with rounds of 67 and 65 for an eight under-par total and a three-shot win over Adam Rochester.
Wearside-based Paul Ward won the Scratch Open at Consett & District with a three under-par 68 – as John Kennedy finished one shot back in second place.
Matty Cornish led the field at his home club as he won the Hollinside Trophy at Whickham. Matty topped the leaderboard with a two under-par round of 69 – beating Hartlepool’s Lloyd Bond by one shot.
Elsewhere, top players from around the region have picked up scratch event wins.
Dan Norman won the 56th Teesside Trophy at his home club with a three under-par total. Dan led the field in the Yorkshire Order of Merit event – shooting rounds of 68 and 73 for a three under-par total and a three-shot win over clubmate Robert Hillier and Oscar Knowles from Thirsk and Northallerton.
Whickham Golf Club captain Darren McCaig lifted the North Durham Union of Golf Clubs’ Alan Curtis Scratch Trophy at City of Newcastle. Darren led the field with a three under-par total for a three-shot win over Boldon’s David Bingham, Ramside Hall’s Shaun Embleton and Brancepeth Castle’s Jack Richardson.
Finally, City of Newcastle’s Andrew Minnikin topped the leaderboard in the Newcastle & District Golf League’s Players Championship at Gosforth. Andrew led the way with a three under-par round of 66 as clubmate and defending champion Phil Ridden finished second on two under-par. The City of Newcastle team – featuring Andrew, Phil and Karl Mossom – took home the team title with a 15-shot win as Backworth’s Andy Hunter won the nett title with a four under-par score.
