Close House and the English Champion Club-winning team from City of Newcastle were recognised at the annual Sport Newcastle Gala Awards Dinner.
Close House received the biggest prize on the night, the Sporting Success Award, for its successful hosting of the British Masters at the annual event, which is organised by Sport Newcastle and recognises sporting success across the region.
Close House managing director Jonathan Lupton said: “It was a great honour to collect the Sporting Success Award on behalf of the Close House team following the most successful British Masters ever. It was the culmination of two years of hard work and we are incredibly proud to have hosted such a successful event.”
The team of Alex Dixon, Phil Ridden and Mark Wharton from City of Newcastle Golf Club received the Frank Brennan Trophy for team of the year after they became the English Champion Club for the first time before going on to finish third in the European Club Trophy.
Meanwhile in the Rising Star Awards, Gosforth Park Ladies Golf Club member Jessica Baker was recognised among 10 of the region’s most promising young sports stars.
