Let there be light

Practice sessions at Matfen Hall Golf Club can now continue after the sun goes down thanks to the installation of flood lights at the club’s driving range.

Olympic Gold medallist Jonathan Edwards, Newcastle United footballer Paul Dummett and European Tour winner Ken Ferrie joined club members to take the first swings under the new lights.

The improvement, which was made possible after a £5,000 investment, will enable the range to stay open until 8pm during the winter months (Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays to begin with) for practice and lessons.

Matfen-based professional John Harrison said: “As a teaching professional, it’s great to be able to give my clients the opportunity to continue their lessons throughout the winter and provide a facility for them to practice”.

Ken added: “It’s good to see Matfen adding to their golf offering. With the par three course and longer opening hours on the range, there is no reason not to practice.”

Matfen Hall’s director of golf Lisa Ferrie said the investment and late night opening of the driving range was part of Matfen Hall’s ongoing commitment to give members the best experience possible.
