Assessment days for the Northumberland academy coaching system will take place in September with some of the county’s leading coaches.

The academy coaching system in Northumberland is open to players aged 10-17 and the academy will deliver 18 hours of coaching to each player during the 2019/20 off-season. The cost for this coaching is £99.

This year’s assessment days will be held at Close House on Saturday September 7 and Linden Hall on Saturday September 22.

Following the selection process, coaching sessions take place across the county with the support of highly skilled PGA professionals. This year, sessions will be hosted by Marcus Webb (Bedlington), Tim Cockill (Close House), Sally Hinton-Lewis (Close House), JJ Vallely (Matfen Hall), David O’Brien (Parklands), John McKenna (Tynemouth) and a North Northumberland-based coach (TBC).

Academy coordinator Marcus Webb said: “Our county is blessed with a number of talented juniors, both boys and girls, and the aim of our programme is to match them up with some of the county’s best coaches. We see this programme as a key part of the player pathway in Northumberland – whether that’s going on to play club golf or progressing into things like the county elite coaching and England regional squad coaching with Northumberland-based pros Andy Paisley and JJ Vallely.”

The Northumberland Academy celebrates its 10th year in 2019/20, with success stories across all ages ranging from county caps to internationals.

Applications for the assessment days close on August 31. For more information and to apply, contact your club’s junior organiser or Northumberland academy coordinator Marcus Webb, tel 01670 822 087 or
