Hexham Golf Club’s Matty Lamb has been added to the Walker Cup squad following his return to England colours in the recent European Men’s Team Championship.
Matty was part of the silver medal-winning men’s team in Sweden, which beat both Wales and Scotland 4-3 before losing 4½-2½ to home team Sweden in a keenly contested final, in which all but one of the matches went at least as far as the 17th green.
Matty picked up wins in the foursomes against Wales and Scotland alongside Alex Fitzpatrick.
Meanwhile, Rosie Belsham, Jess Baker and Caitlin Whitehead represented England in the European Girls Team Championship.
The team qualified in fifth position before losing 4-3 to Spain, 3-2 to The Netherlands and 3½-1½ to Sweden. Rosie and Jess won their foursomes match against Spain, Rosie going on to win her singles match as well. Rosie also picked up a win in the singles against Sweden on the final day.
Meanwhile, the women’s and boys teams finished in fifth place in their respective events.
