Wynyard’s Briony wins Northern Golfer Junior Champion of Champions event
Bishop Auckland’s Briony Bayles continued her sensational end to the season with victory in the Northern Golfer Junior Champion of Champions event at Chester-le-Street Golf Club.
Winner of the St Andrews Junior Ladies Open, Wynyard’s junior club champion produced a five under-par 67 to beat 2015 winner James Wilson (Tyneside) by a single shot.
Briony said: “The end of the season has been a dream come true.
“Having the title of champion of champions is amazing. I’d been looking forward to playing the event and signing off the season with a good result. I felt confident on the course and just focused on each shot.
“I started with a birdie at the first and holed a good putt for par at the second, which got me going. I kept giving myself chances and knew i had a chance when I holed a few putts early on.
“To end the season doing what I’ve worked on for so long, giving myself chances as often as possible and staying focused on playing each shot, is a great feeling. I can’t wait for the start of next season now.”
George Washington’s Aaron Scott finished in third place one one under-par as Will Marshall (Heworth) and William Nimmo (Chester-le-Street) finished in the top five.
