The North of England Under 14 Championship at South Moor came to a thrilling conclusion having battled the wet weather.
The sixth staging of the championship was in doubt when torrential rain flooded the course and day one was cancelled. Hard work ensured days two and three went ahead and the tournament ended in fine style with 2018 champion Josh Berry shooting rounds 74 and 69 to retain the title by a single shot.
In a thrilling finish, the Doncaster youngster edged out Thorndon Park’s Louis Vallis, who also shot a second round 69 to add to his opening round of 75.
Fulford’s Alexandra Bonfield made it a Yorkshire double by winning the girls prize with rounds of 78 and 78. Meanwhile, Yorkshire-based 15 handicapper Charlotte Colley posted a 36 hole total of 138 to pick up the nett trophy and six handicapper Lucia Maturi (Lindrick) won the boys nett prize.
Surrey also took home a basketful of silverware with Cuddington’s Kris Kim collecting the trophy for the leading U12 player while his brother Matthew took home the boy’s U12 handicap prize and Matilde Santilli (Foxhill) added to the haul with the girls U12 prize.
