A golf day in memory of Jonny Jones – who represented GB&I and Europe in the Phoenix Cup and won the Disabled British Open – will take place at Whitley Bay Golf Club on May 28.
The event – which will raise money for The Bridges Project in Hull, which is run by The Forward Trust – has been created in Jonny’s memory following his passing last summer.
Some 66 players in 17 teams are signed up for the event, which will have a range of prizes as well as a raffle, silent auction and charity bunker on the ninth hole to help raise money for the charity. Auction prizes include a signed cap and glove from Lee Westwood, fourball vouchers from clubs across the region, and a lesson with PGA professional Sally Hinton.
Jonny, who was born with Arthrogryposis, joined Whitley Bay Golf Club as a youngster and went on to hold a handicap of four, while also being a member of the greenkeeping team for a season. He won the Disabled British Open at Stratford Park in 2019, and played for the GB&I and European teams in the Phoenix Cup in the US and in Scotland.
