A golf day in memory of Jonny Jones – who represented GB&I and Europe in the Phoenix Cup and won the Disabled British Open – raised more than £3,700.
The event at Whitley Bay Golf Club raised money for The Bridges Project in Hull, which is run by The Forward Trust, and was held in Jonny’s memory following his passing last summer.
Jonny, who was born with Arthrogryposis, joined Whitley Bay Golf Club as a youngster and went on to hold a handicap of four, while also being a member of the greenkeeping team for a season. He won the Disabled British Open at Stratford Park in 2019, and played for the GB&I and European teams in the Phoenix Cup in the US and in Scotland.
A total of 17 teams and 66 players competed for the Jonny Jones Charity Golf Day Trophy and prizes donated by clubs, businesses and professionals across the region and beyond.
Event organisers Chris Mills, Ann Todd and Michael Fender thanked all the players and those who donated prizes for their generous support.
