Graeme Storm’s tour bag has helped swell Hartlepool captain Neal Thornley’s charity drive to more than £20,000.
Neal, lady captain Brenda Corney and club members and friends worked tirelessly to raise the remarkable sum, which went to Macmillan Cancer Support and Alice House Hospice as donations were also made to The Great North Air Ambulance and The Bubble Foundation.
The money was raised across a number of events including a coast to coast cycle ride, the Great North Run, a Boxing Day dip in the North Sea and a 10 mile-10 pub walk, as well as auctions and raffles.
Generous donations such as that from Storm, who gave up the tour bag he used in his BMW South African victory, also helped towards the total.
“I was humbled by the generosity of those giving both their time and money in support of the charities,” said Neal.
