Houghton juniors raise more than £4,000 for Prostate Cancer UK

Houghton-le-Spring juniors Ellen Gray and Jacob Willis have completed a 12-hor golf challenge, raising ££4,222 for Prostate Cancer UK.

The challenge was originally Ellen’s idea in October 2022 – following her grandfather Phil’s diagnosis with prostate cancer. Having introduced Ellen to the game and supported her progress, Phil sadly passed away earlier this summer, with the challenge played in his memory in July.

During their three non-stop rounds – which saw Jacob hit the opening drive at 7am and Ellen hole the final putt at 7pm – the pair experienced four seasons of weather with family and friends supporting them – including pairs joining them for one hour at a time to make up the fourball. Supporters included club officials, Houghton members, family members, and Northumberland county champion Andrew Minnikin throughout the day.
