Angie Heads lifted the biggest title of her golfing career to-date with victory in the Northumberland Lady Vets County Championship at Whitley Bay Golf Club.
Angie, who progressed through Monday’s 18-hole qualifying round before four rounds of matchplay in two days, including the final against county captain Elaine Elliott, said: “This is definitely the most prestigious win of my golfing career, I’m ecstatic.
“I played the qualifying round with Elaine and to meet her again in the final, over her home course, was always going to be tough.”
In a close final it took a sudden-death playoff to decide the winner as Angie made a birdie at the first extra hole to lift the trophy.
“It was a tiring week – mentally and physically and having my husband Graeme on the bag was a big help. He was fantastic all week,” added Angie.
With the win, Angie will lead the county team this season with matches against the northern counties taking place in June and July.
“Being involved in the county scene has given my golf a new lease of life in the last couple of seasons. It’s going to be an honour to lead the county team out this summer – and a big challenge.”
