Harrison Sewell and Zara Naughton heading to US colleges
Northumberland’s Harrison Sewell and Zara Naughton are heading to the US to continue their golf careers at college later this year.
Harrison, the 2023 Northern Golfer men’s Champion of Champions, has committed to joining Midland Junior College in Texas on a two-year scholarship, which he hopes will lead to further opportunities with colleges across the pond.
“Going to the US and playing golf in the junior college system will be a huge step forward,” said Harrison. “I can’t wait to get out there and be part of the golf programme, and play in some warm weather!
“Playing golf in the US has always been in the back of my mind, but I wasn’t sure I’d get the opportunity. The last couple of years competing in national events and having some better results, while also getting the chance to represent England a couple of times, has given me the confidence to go over and develop my game further.
“I’ve done loads of research and while I’ve got my A Levels and a busy year of golf at home coming up, I can’t wait to get out to Texas and start the next chapter of my golf career.”
Meanwhile, Zara has committed to joining Eastern Tennessee State University later this year.
She said: “I’m so happy to be heading to Tennessee at the end of the summer. I’ve been offered a fantastic scholarship opportunity and I’m looking forward to working with coach Shildon. There’s a lot to play in this summer, then I’ll be off to start college – I can’t wait!”
