Everything is Rosie

Rosie Belsham has become the youngest-ever winner of the Northumberland County Ladies Championship after beating fellow teenager Jessica Baker at Bamburgh Castle.

Fifteen-year-old Rosie (Whitley Bay) lost on the 20th hole to 14-year-old Jessica (Gosforth Park Ladies) in the Northumberland County Junior Matchplay Championship at City of Newcastle earlier this season, but she had her revenge at Bamburgh with a 6&5 victory.

Both players are on England Golf’s radar and members of the England Under 16 squad, while Jess won the Midland U16 title this year and Rosie has also won the Northumberland Under-21 Championship.

Both also fancy the prospect of a golfing scholarship in the USA and will be concentrating on getting the right exam grades.

Rosie shot into the limelight last year when she holed out from 166 yards in the North of England Under 14 Open to scored an albatross at the par five second hole. It was her first albatross and followed her first hole-in-one during a Saturday morning friendly match at her home club against her mother Gina.

Rosie was runner-up in the girls section at South Moor and joint second in the Scottish Girls Under 14 Championship last year, and runner-up at City of Newcastle this season with this her first big county win.
