Charlotte Naughton lifted the biggest trophy of her career to-date as she won the European Ladies’ Amateur title at Allerum Golfklubb in Sweden.
Longhirst Club-based Charlotte, 18, shot rounds of 69, 72, 67 and 72 to lead wire-to-wire and finish on eight under-par, two shots clear of home favourite Meja Örtengren.
“I’m over the moon, this is the biggest win of my golf career so far,” said Charlotte, who completed her A Levels earlier this summer ahead of joining the University of Texas women’s golf team. “I put a lot of work in ahead of this event and I played so well.
“Stepping up from success in girls’ events and winning a women’s title is really important, and I’m so happy to have done it in Sweden.
“I played well in all four rounds. Getting off to a good start gave me some confidence as the field was packed with so many good players. I battled through round two, then shot five under-par in round three, which was awesome. Going bogey-free is always good, and I hit 17 greens in regulation while staying patient and holing a few putts to shoot a really solid score under pressure.”
Having led after each of the first three rounds, in the final round Charlotte pulled away with birdies at the fourth and fifth, and kept her foot on the gas with a long birdie putt at the 10th. Entering the final two holes four shots clear, she saw her lead halved after a double bogey on 17. At the par five 18th, a composed birdie clinched the title on a hole she played in five under-par across the four rounds.
“I didn’t have the best of starts to the final round, I was definitely nervous, but I managed to stay calm,” added Charlotte. “I made a big mistake on the 17th, but I stayed calm down the last and I’m really happy to win.”
Charlotte joined a long list of illustrious winners of the event, including Carlota Ciganda, Caroline Hedwall, Bronte Law and Céline Boutier.
With the win, she earned a place in the field for the AIG Women’s Open at Royal Lytham & St Anne’s – having been set to fly home and play in qualifying for the event.
The win added to Charlotte’s remarkable success recently – which has included victory at the 2025 German Girls’ International Amateur, three Lawson Trophy wins in a row at St Andrews, winning the 2025 World Junior Girls Golf Championship in Canada, and claiming the individual title at the 2026 Junior Orange Bowl. She has also represented Europe at the 2025 Junior Ryder Cup, and was the youngest member of the Great Britain & Ireland team at the Curtis Cup at Bel-Air earlier this season.
“It’s been such a busy year so far with exams, international events and the Curtis Cup, but it’s also been the best year ever,” added Charlotte.
“I’m enjoying my golf and winning big events is so much fun. I can’t wait to play in the Women’s Open, and getting the exemption means I get some time to sleep. I’m excited for the rest of the summer at home, including the Home Internationals, before I go to Canada to play in my first LPGA Tour event, then join the team at the University of Texas for my freshman year.”
