Durham’s men got off to a winning start in the Northern Counties league with a singles comeback to beat Cumbria 10-8 at Penrith.
Trailing 4-2 after the morning foursomes, James Glenn got Durham off to a fine start with a 6&5 win over Luke Walker in the top singles match. Martin McCririck and Chris Handy both halved their matches before James Roger and Gavin Nesbit lost tight games which went to the 18th. Durham’s middle order then took the match to Cumbria with wins from Will Marshall (5&4), Adam Charlton (3&2), Ainsley Inglis (4&3), David Kelly (1 hole) and John Kennedy (3&2). Michael Henson ran up against and in-form Craig Morrow, losing 6&5 in the penultimate match, before Stuart Brown finished off the victory with a 3&1 win over Simon Young.
