The wet weather has delayed the final stages of two of Durham’s key county fixtures – the ladies’ County Championship and men’s Matchplay Championship.
Bishop Auckland’s Jess Hall and Houghton-le-Spring’s Emily Baxter – the top two qualifiers in the strokeplay stage, which was won by Jess with rounds of 70 and 71 – will contest the final match of the ladies’ County Championship at Houghton later this season.
Meanwhile, the final four players in the men’s Matchplay Championship will return to Durham City later this year after heavy rain paused the event. Home club duo Alex Robinson and Jack Richardson are set to face each other in the first semi-final, while the county’s record cap winner, Consett’s John Kennedy – twice a winner of the title in 1996 and 2021 – is set to take on Beamish Park’s Tom Skelton in the second semi-final.
