City of Newcastle win Northumberland Teams Championship

City of Newcastle’s three-man team is set to return to the England Golf Champion Club tournament after winning the Northumberland Teams Championship at Blyth Golf Club.

City’s team of Phil Ridden, Andrew Minnikin and Karl Mossom topped the leaderboard with a 36-hole total of 14 over-par as 2022 winners Hexham finished one shot back. Meanwhile, Phil led the individual scoring with a one under-par total of 139.

In the second division event, played over 18 holes, Morpeth – represented by Sandy Twynholm, Phil Graham and Nick Thorne – led the way with a two-shot win over Whitley Bay. Both sides earned promotion for 2024 along with Backworth and Prudhoe.

City of Newcastle will now represent Northumberland in the national final at Ealing Golf Club September 23-24, which they won in 2019 before going on to win the European Champion Club tournament.
