Ten-year-old Havish Aravind from Brampton Golf Club was crowned overall champion at the 2024 PING Junior Masters at Close House after a thrilling day of golf which saw the winners of the six categories separated by just three shots.
While Havish was crowned overall champion and boys’ U12 winner, Lily Jane Morgan won the girls’ U12 title. In the U15 age category, Amelia Hothersall won the girls’ title and James Henderson won the boys’ prize. In the U18 events, Kayla Hill won the girls’ event and Henry Murphy won the boys’ event.
A field of 70 junior golfers from around the UK competed over the Colt Course at Close House and were watched by attached professional Lee Westwood – who was instrumental in the creation of the event ahead of the British Masters in 2017.
“It is great to see so many junior golfers competing,” said Lee. “I’m thrilled to be involved with the series and it’s great to see how it has grown over the past seven years. Thanks to Close House, PING, and of course the parents who have supported their children in their golfing journeys so far.”
Jonathan Lupton, managing director of Close House, added: “We are extremely proud to continue this legacy event which started when we hosted the 2017 British Masters. I would like to thank PING for their continued support of the event which looks to engage more juniors in the game we love.”
This year’s event once again saw PING provide all the prizes at the grand final. Dave Fanning, PING European marketing director, added: “We’re delighted to support the PING Junior Masters and pleased we can provide support while increasing the outreach of junior golf. We applaud the work the team at Close House does on an annual basis to host this fantastic event.”
Qualifiers for the event took place from April to September across eight counties, stretching from Fife to Lincolnshire.
