Jessica Hall smashed another course record on her way to winning the North of England Schools Championship for the second year in a row.
Jessica’s course record 72 at Whickham Golf Club didn’t last very long with Lancashire’s Boh Greenwood posting a second round 71, but she could only finish third after a first round 82 while Hall added a 76 to retain her title by two shots from Whitley Bay Golf Club’s Rosie Belsham.
Hall’s 72 smashed the course record by eight shots before it was shaded by one in the afternoon by Greenwood.
In the boys’ championship, Will Skipp (Dyke House College) finished second behind Matthew Jackson (Lancashire) while Yorkshire’s Charlie Daughtry was third.
Hall, Kitana Hollins and Ella Crang (Durham Sixth Form College) won the girls’ team event while Matthew Watson (Durham SFC), Will Marshall (Gateshead College), Skipp and Josh Hoggarth (NW Durham Academy) won the boys’ title. It’s the third year in a row Durham has won both team titles
Despite qualifying for the English Schools Championship at The Kendleshire, Hall had to withdraw after an oblique muscle injury at Northern Counties Match Week.
Top North East player was Ramside’s England Schools cap Kitana Hollins, who finished 10th. She is off to Murray State College in South Oklahoma in September while Belsham had to settle for 15th and Skipp and Marshall both finished in a tie for 13th.
