American dream

Durham’s Laura Alexander has landed a dream job in the US and will be taking up the assistant coach position at Thomas University next season after completing her bachelors degree.

Based at Wynyard when home in the UK, Laura will be working alongside coach Rick Pearce while studying her masters.

Laura said: “It’s a dream come true, something that hasn’t settled in yet! When I returned to Georgia this year, coach Pearce asked me to stay on to be the assistant coach and to do my masters as he said I was an asset to the golf programme. I immediately said yes!”

Laura, 22, started her college career at junior college in Oklahoma before moving to Thomas University in Georgia.

A three-handicapper, Laura will be supporting a team which features her younger sister Zara, who has just started her studies at Thomas.

Laura added: “I’ve enjoyed every minute of my college golf career, travelling to different states, playing top-notch golf courses and meeting new friends for life.

“I am really looking forward to being a post-graduate assistant coach, I feel I have the right advice to give to the upcoming athletes from my experience over the last five years. I couldn’t be happier.”
