Wilson wows in Faldo Series

James Wilson lifted the Faldo Series North Championship trophy at Moortown Golf Club with a three-shot victory.

Tyneside Golf Club-based James shot rounds of 74, 68 and 69 over the Alister MacKenzie-designed course to lead the elite field by three shots and book his place in the Faldo Series Grand Final. His final round included birdies at the 15th, 16th and 17th.

“I was pleased with my game; I played solidly and putted well,” said James. “I knew what I needed to do on the home stretch and the three birdies sealed it. Looking forward to playing in the Grand Final, I know there are some high quality players there already. I think I’ll go in confident because this is a difficult track – to get round in one piece feels very good.”

Meanwhile, the boys’ U18 division was won by Luke Bartram as Owen Watts won the boys’ U16 title.

Today, 40 Faldo Series tournaments take place in more than 30 countries worldwide. Past winners of Faldo Series events include major champions Tseng Ya-ni and Rory McIlroy.
