Andrew Wilson’s excellent season continued when he won the Leonard Crawley Medal at Brancepeth Castle – but it was a close finish.
Andrew chased down Richard Aisbitt – a serial winner of the medal on his home course – after the former England Mid-Amateur Champion shot a first round 66.
The England cap from Darlington was three shots behind after that first round but Aisbitt struggled to a 76 in the second round as Andrew came through with 73 to win by one shot with Jack Richardson third (70-73). Wilson won the medal in 2016, when Aisbitt and James Glenn both finished runners-up.
Andrew was part of England’s winning team against France this year and has had top 10s in the African and Irish Amateur Championships, a sixth place in the Brabazon and 11th in the St Andrews Links Trophy. He’s also been invited to play in the European Challenge Tour’s Bridgestone Challenge at Luton Hoo along with Nick Poppleton.
