PGA professional Will Robson teamed up with fellow pro James Harding to win the 2026 British Speedgolf Pairs Championship at Mid Herts Golf Club.
Will, who is based at Close House, teamed up with Harpenden-based James to lead the field in the foursomes event with a score of 110:38 – combining their 18-hole round of 73 with their time of 37 minutes and 38 seconds. Luke Willett and Luke Bone finished second – with 79 strokes in 37 minutes and 38 seconds for a score of 116:38 – as a field of more than 50 players competed for the title.
“It’s really cool to be a national champion,” said Will. “To win my first-ever Speedgolf foursomes event with James was great. We put some time into planning who would hit tee shots on certain holes, and how we would communicate where shots were heading or when one of us needed a bit of a lift. Our gameplan was good and we both played well to shoot 73.
“There’s lots to learn when you start playing Speedgolf, including how each shot is equivalent to a minute of running, so you need to pace yourself and be ready to hit good putts rather than hitting every shot as fast as you possibly can. You also learn how to setup your clubs and navigate your way around the golf course in a different way. Training at Bellingham Golf Club, the course I grew up at, is great. It’s a tough run and you can’t be wild with any of your shots, so it’s great for Speedgolf.”
The British Speedgolf Pairs Championship tested far more than golf ability as competitors covered 6.75km around Mid Herts, running between shots and tackling several lengthy green-to-tee transitions.
Following the win, Will has Speedgolf events across Europe in his diary this summer – including the British Speedgolf Championship (solo), which returns to Sunningdale Heath Golf Club on September 6 – before he heads to the TORO Speedgolf World Championship and Team World Cup in New Zealand in November, where he will be teaming up with James to represent British Speedgolf as part of a 12-player national squad.
“This is my second full season of Speedgolf and things are really starting to click, so I’m hoping for a successful year,” added Will. “I can’t wait to head to New Zealand at the end of the year, and it’ll be great to team up with James again for the pairs event while we’re there.”
