Golfers from across the region are set to tee off to help cancer support charity Daft As A Brush.
The Dawson & Sanderson golf day will take place at Longhirst Hall Golf Course in Northumberland in May 12 and the team is hoping to raise £8,000 on the day for the charity.
The Newcastle-based travel agency has been fundraising to support Daft As A Brush’s free transport service for patients across the north of England throughout the year.
Longhirst Hall’s director of golf Graham Chambers said: “It looks set to be a fantastic day, with lots of teams already registered representing companies across the North East. We’re hoping to get some of the Newcastle United players along as well and have some signed footballs and shirts for the auction and raffle.
“It’s an amazing cause to support and hopefully the golf day will help Dawson & Sanderson smash its £20,000 fundraising target for Daft As A Brush.”
The travel agency has been supporting Daft As A Brush all year to help contribute towards the costs of the charity’s innovative service – which collects cancer patients from their homes for hospital appointments before dropping them back at home afterwards.
Staff have held bake sales, tuck shops, bike rides, sponsored walks and runs and a zip wire dash from the Tyne Bridge to help beat the target.
Chris Harrison, managing director of Dawson & Sanderson, said: “Our charity campaign for Daft As A Brush has truly caught the imagination of our staff and customers and it looks like we will smash our £20,000 target at the golf day.
“It’s amazing that we can host the tournament at Longhirst as the resort was set up by our founder Tommy Dawson and it will provide a fantastic venue with both courses hosting events on the PGA EuroPro Tour. in recent years”
