Stephen Macari and Gordon Nicol win Northumberland handicap titles

Golfers from across the county competed for handicap titles in Northumberland – with Longhirst Hall’s Stephen Macari winning the County Salver and Newcastle United’s Gordon Nicol winning the Forster Cup.

In the County Salver at Burgham Park – which was open to players with handicaps between 4.4-12.4 – Longhirst-based Stephen led the field with a nett score of 69 (gross 77) as Burgham’s Kevin Phillips finished second, and Morpeth’s Alan Young was third. Bedlingtonshire’s Nathan Buchanan won the best gross prize with a score of 75.

In the Forster Cup at Tynemouth – which was open to players with handicaps between 12.5-28.4 – Newcastle United-based Gordon topped the leaderboard with 40 stableford points, beating Gosforth’s Dave Slipper by four shots as Blyth’s Mark Tilbury finished third.
