Whether you’re heading north for the Genesis Scottish Open, The Open Championship at Royal Troon, the AIG Women’s Open on The Old Course at St Andrews, or paying a visit for a longer golf break, here’s our pick of some of the gems just a short drive from our region…
The Auld Cross Keys Inn
The Auld Cross Keys Inn has been at the heart of life in the village of Denholm for more than 200 years, and remains a popular choice for visitors to the Scottish Borders – including golfers. The inn can accommodate up to 26 people in its 12 rooms and offers quality food, drink and accommodation at competitive prices. Some of the Borders’ best courses are just a short drive away – including Eyemouth, Torwoodlee, Minto, Jedburgh, Kelso and Hirsel.

St Boswells
What St Boswells lacks in length it makes up for with the view. The 5,522-yard par 68 course sits on the south bank of the River Tweed, with the nine holes set among tall trees and sure to test every aspect of your game. A sharp short game will yield birdies, while wayward tee shots will be punished by hazards, including the river. Sharing the setting with anglers and the wildlife, there are few more relaxing places to play golf.

Woll Golf Course
Set in the Ale Valley at the heart of the New Woll Estate, Woll Golf Course – one of Golf World’s Top 100 Society Venues in Great Britain and Ireland for 2024 – is an essential part of any visit to the Scottish Borders. Measuring just over 6,000 yards from the back tees, the key to good scoring here is patience, with mature trees bordering the fairways and fast, undulating greens sure to test the best players. With the Woll Burn also coming into play on a number of holes, the par of 70 isn’t threatened too often here. The facilities at New Woll Estate include a spacious clubhouse and restaurant with a warm Borders welcome, as well as self-catering accommodation for up to 26 people on-site. Just off the A7, those travelling from Newcastle or Carlisle are just an hour away.

Lundin Golf Club
Laid out and refined by some of golf’s greatest architects including Tom Morris and James Braid, the course at Lundin, which was formed in 1868, remains one of Scotland’s finest links. With views across the Firth of Forth, the course remains largely as it was some 100 years ago.
