Head north to Dumfries to experience great golf and the chance to relax in style at The Cairndale Hotel & Spa
Northern Golfer readers don’t have to drive far for the best value golf in Scotland, says Cairndale Hotel & Spa golf co-ordinator Claire Scott.
Just half an hour’s drive from the English border, the 86-bedroom Dumfries hotel, which is home to one of the UK’s top spas, has unveiled a host of new packages for golfers.
The list of options includes a two-night stay with breakfast; dinner in the hotel’s new casual dining restaurant, The Oak; and three rounds on some of the south of Scotland’s most scenic courses from £395 per person.
The two-night Midweek Autumn 2026 package is a fantastic, cheaper option – priced from just £259pp – and the Sunday Driver package with a round at Dumfries & Galloway, two-course dinner, overnight stay and full Scottish breakfast is only £129pp.
The 2027 packages include a two-night stay, breakfast, dinner and two rounds on championship links courses on the Solway coast from £410pp.
“Scotland is arguably the most popular country for golf in the world, but its best-known courses are way beyond most players’ reach pricewise,” says Claire, who books thousands of rounds for guests on local courses each year.
“However, the south west of Scotland is very affordable and within easy reach of the north of England. Having the chance to relax in our spa is a wonderful bonus, and we’re continuing to pull out all the stops to make visitors as welcome as ever next year.”
In 2026, Cairndale was named a UK Best Spa by The AA – becoming one of only four establishments in Scotland to be awarded the accolade.
Situated in the heart of Dumfries, the family owned and run business was named Best Independent Hotel at the 2025 Scottish Excellence Awards. It was also a finalist in the Scottish Golf Tourism Awards in the last two years.
The hotel is only a short walk from the town’s railway station, while a dozen of Scotland’s most scenic golf courses are within half an hour’s drive – from Southerness and Powfoot on the Solway coast to the likes of Dumfries & County.
The spa opened in the summer of 2024 after a £2million investment, with the opening of The Oak casual dining restaurant and new luxury bedrooms following in 2025.
The team, including dedicated golf co-ordinator Claire, are experts in golf as well as hospitality.
They can arrange tee times, meals and rooms in the hotel as well as time in the spa – including a range of treatments for golfers – with flexible packages often presenting tremendous value when compared to those in England and the traditional golfing hotspots in The Home of Golf.
