Northumberland teams win derby matches

Northumberland’s men’s and seniors’ teams beat local rivals Durham at Whickham and Newbiggin respectively in Northern Counties team matches.

At Whickham, Northumberland produced a dominant foursomes display – winning five of the six matches by narrow margins – before edging the singles 6.5-5.5 to win the tie 11.5-6.5.

Elsewhere in the men’s league, Cheshire beat Cumbria 14.5-3.5 at Reddish Vale, and Lancashire beat Yorkshire 9.5-8.5 at Rotherham to go to the top of the table after two rounds of matches.

Meanwhile, Northumberland’s seniors’ team sit top the Northern Counties Seniors’ League after winning both of their opening matches.

Following their season-opening win over Durham at Newbiggin, the Northumberland team beat Cheshire 11-7 at Astbury. Durham meanwhile beat Lancashire 11.5-6.5 at Durham City in their second match.
