The Northumberland & Durham Golf Alliance (NDGA) marks a significant milestone in 2026 as it celebrates its centenary.
Established in the 1920s, the alliance was inaugurated at Hexham Golf Club under the guidance of the club’s professional, Jack Jarman, whose vision helped lay the foundation for what would become one of the region’s most enduring golfing organisations.
From its earliest days, the NDGA benefited from strong local support, and its first major competition and accompanying trophy were backed by the Newcastle Evening Chronicle.
The alliance continues to host events for its members throughout the year at clubs across Durham and Northumberland, building on a century of fostering competitive golf across the region, and providing opportunities for players of all levels to compete.
As part of its centenary celebrations in 2026, the alliance will host a special event at Silloth on Solway Golf Club supported by main sponsor SG Petch, whose backing continues a long tradition of partnership and support that has been central to the organisation’s success.
“As the NDGA celebrates 100 years of competition and camaraderie, it not only honours its rich heritage but also looks ahead to a future of continued growth and participation in the game,” said NDGA secretary Jeff Shield.
“The alliance’s longevity is a testament to the dedication of its members, officials, and supporters – as well as the continued strength of golf clubs throughout Durham and Northumberland.
“I would like to express my sincere gratitude to all alliance members for their continued support and commitment. In particular, thanks are due to our chairman, George Rennie, along with committee members Brian Mabon, Neil Clarke and Peter Schofield – whose dedication and hard work play a vital role in the ongoing success of the alliance.”
