The men’s teams from Northumberland and Durham won their fourth-round matches in the Northern Counties League – setting up an exciting end to this year’s campaign.
At Ponteland, Northumberland best Lancashire 10.5-7.5 to climb into a tie for third spot in this year’s race for the league title.
At Blackwell Grange, Durham thrashed Cumbria 13-5 to join Northumberland on four points.
Meanwhile, Cheshire and Yorkshire finished tied at Eaton – leaving both teams on five points at the top of the table and setting up a fascinating final round of matches on September 7.
Five of the six counties can still win the league title, with Yorkshire and Cheshire just one point ahead of Northumberland, Durham and Lancashire. Northumberland face Yorkshire at Dunstanburgh Castle on the final day, while Durham host Cheshire at South Moor, and Cumbria host Lancashire at Brampton.
